RECOGNITION NIGHT - TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25

You don't want to miss this one! Invitations will be arriving in the mail this week. Social hour is from 6:30 - 7:30 in the Grand Hallway, with the recognition awards and the world-renowned Senior Parents' Skit following in the PAC.

Please dress as you would for Homecoming or even Prom. That means girls in fancy dresses and boys in nice pants, shirt & tie. DO NOT feel like you need to buy something new or special. If you do not have a fancy dress, plenty of other girls in band have more than one. Ask to borrow a dress for the evening.

Families are invited and encouraged to come along and help us celebrate another successful season of marching band!

CHANGE OF PLANS .... AGAIN!

One last time! Tomorrow's schedule for ACCs looks like this:

8:30 Leave LS
10:15 arrive Allentown
12:16 perform
Bring money for snacks/lunch at the stadium concession stands
3:00 awards
Following awards we will stop at CiCi's Pizza Buffet on the way home. Students' meals are paid for. Anyone else who wants to stop, cost is $7.50. CiCi's is located at 2180 Macarthur Road in Whitehall, which is 4.3 miles from J. Birnie Crum.
We anticipate a return time of between 7 & 8 p.m. Please be there when the buses get back. That way you can help us carry in all the trophies we are going to win!!!!

ACC TICKETS HAVE ARRIVED!

And we have plenty, so don't panic. The cost is $14 for adults and $12 for students/seniors if you buy them from us. At the gate they will cost you $20 & $15, so be sure to find Melanie Henry after practice on Tuesday and Thursday this week to get your tickets in advance. Chaperones are required by TOB to have tickets for this one.

Mr. Royer has posted the schedule for the weekend on the band website. Details for lunch are still not finalized, so stay tuned here and at practice for the latest on that.

PARKLAND TICKETS

In case you waited to buy your tickets for Parkland, Melanie will be at the school between 12:30 and 1 p.m. today with tickets available for purchase. I will be there around 4 as well. Adults are $8; students & seniors, $5. Remember -- purchase from us and the money goes to our treasury :-)

It is looking more & more like Parkland will go off as planned. Nothing definite yet, but it looks like the rain will be more spotty & scattered than originally thought. I will keep you posted.

HERE'S THE LATEST REGARDING THIS WEEKEND:

IF it rains like they are predicting on Saturday ... Parkland will notify us by 2 p.m. on Saturday whether or not they will hold the competition. IF they cancel, they will not reschedule. Therefore, we may be looking for another show to attend on WEDNESDAY EVENING.

IF we are able to get into a Wednesday night show, there will be no Monday night practice.

There are lots of "ifs" and "maybes" associated with this one ... please stay tuned for the latest updates.

AS OF NOW -- FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 12:35 -- NOTHING HAS CHANGED. YOU SHOULD PLAN TO FOLLOW THE SCHEDULE AS IT EXISTS. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU OF ANY CHANGES WHEN/IF THEY OCCUR!

TODAY IS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23

... and the weatherman is not being kind in his forecasts for Saturday. This sounds like the kind of day that makes Band Directors (and especially Band Moms!) half crazy!! It will be very important to stay tuned for last minute changes in our schedule. Please remember these decisions are often very last minute and out of our control. Remember the Band Boosters' Night at Texas Roadhouse is this Monday from 4 til 9 p.m. Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your check to the Band Boosters. All you need is the flyer that was sent home and a big appetite! The flyer can be found on the band website too --- l-smb.org. Print as many as you need, and don't forget to invite your friends, family and co-workers!!

Be sure to check out the GeorJean website for really great individual photos of band and color guard members in action. Go to www.georjean.com and click on "Click here to view your event" then look at the recent events list. The homecoming football game is where you will find them. Senior parents especially take note ... great poster material, hint hint!

Also, tickets for the Cumberland Valley competition will be available this week after Tuesday's practice and Thursday after the Tag Day performance in the stadium. We have plenty, so don't panic :-)

YOU GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!!!

As you know, our family was at my nephew's wedding in the Poconos this past weekend, so we were not able to be at the Lancaster Catholic competition. What a treat when I checked my e-mail this morning and found out that video of your performance was posted by Mr. Lines on You Tube! I watched it at around 9:30 and already it had been viewed 130 times! I got goosebumps and even a little teary eyed sitting in front of my computer! You did a great job, and I can't wait to see where you take it from here!! Keep working hard Pioneers -- amazing things are in our future, I can feel it in the air!!

BARNSTORMER TICKETS

The Barnstormers have given us 200 FREE tickets to this Sunday's game (Sept. 14) because we did such a great job when we worked the concession stand! If you would like to go, please sign up for the number of tickets you would like at the beginning of practice tomorrow night. Tickets will first be distributed to those who worked the concession stand. Any left over will be up for grabs. Please don't take tickets if you are not sure you can make the game.

TAG DAY SUCCESS!!

A really big THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS goes out to everyone who worked together today to make the '08-'09 version of Tag Day a huge success. Our one day total was what I believe is a record for the first day. Thanks to every one of you for your hard work and willing spirit on a less-than-perfect-weather day!!

RAIN ... RAIN ... GO AWAY!!

It will be very important to check both here and the website for updates of the weekend events. As you all know, the weather is looking pretty awful for Saturday. Mr. Royer, Mrs. Norcross & I have discussed alternative plans, but there is no easy solution. At the very least, you should be looking for your umbrella and raincoat and have it ready to go with you all weekend. This past Friday night was fun in the rain, but this weekend looks like it will be a bit more severe so you should be prepared.

Heard about the parade?

When I read the excellent article in the Advertiser this week I learned that we are marching in a parade in Strasburg on October 4 :-) I checked with Mr. Royer and learned that yes, by golly, we are! He is aware that this is the same day as SAT's as well as the Spring Ford competition, but he assures me that we can do it all!! So, clear your calendar for anything else you may have wanted to do that day ... looks like a marching band marathon!

While you all have summer vacation on your minds, the Band Boosters along with Mr. Royer and the staff are busy little bees making preparations for another fantastic season. I just have a feeling that this next season will be one for the record books! Please check back here often as I will be posting updates about band camp, the new uniforms, and all kinds of other good stuff. Also, be sure to check the website, l-smb.org, frequently.
